Vale Henty Farrar

Henty Farrar sadly passed away a couple of weeks away and his funeral will be held this Wednesday (October 18) at 2pm in the West Chapel of Fremantle Cemetery.

Henty loved Fremantle. We worked together when I was Mayor and Henty was the Vice-President and then President of the Fremantle Society. He was great to work with and brought a wealth of knowledge from his time as an elected member at the City of Fremantle and his extensive public service experience.

One of the key campaigns we worked on together was the Forever Freo campaign when it looked like the City of Fremantle would be swallowed by the Cockburn or Melville. The collaboration between the Fremantle Society, the broader Fremantle community, and the City of Fremantle meant that we persuaded the Barnett Government to accept Fremantle’s recommendation for a new City of Fremantle boundary that was bigger but kept our special sense of community. Without this collaboration, the City of Fremantle might have been the City of Cockmantle.

Henty will be missed. His departure was too sudden. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
